Last week, I posted about how I’ve been off social media for a while. After a great deal of thought, I’ve decided to give Mastodon a try. Mastodon isn’t new to me. I heard about it quite a while ago. What brought it back to my attention was an excellent post by Didier MARY and an ongoing discussion in the Blaugust community about whether comments are essential to a blog.
I have no plans to put comments up, but I would enjoy a place to hear from people who may not want to email me directly and to have people who follow my posts be able to interact with each other. Mastodon is going to be that place—thanks to Didier MARY for the idea.
I’m not in a place to make comments work on this site, and probably won’t be for a while. Everything you see here is made with HTML and CSS on my home desktop without an HTML generator, and then it’s uploaded straight to my hosting provider. I like how it’s set up for now. It’s simple, and it keeps me from pulling my hair out with random plugin issues. There’s also better privacy for myself and visitors compared to my last attempt at building a website.
If you have your own blog or are thinking about blogging, comments are not a requirement. You get to run your blog however you want. Do your thing—whatever it is in life. And send me a link so I can check it out.
If you’re interested in making an account on Mastodon to comment on my future posts or for any other reason, it looks complex, but it’s not if you don’t overthink it. Just go to joinmastodon.org, and choose a server to create an account on. I made mine on sunny.garden because it looked promising for finding and sharing creative work. Any server you choose will be fine. You can interact with anyone on any other server.
My email is always open, but if you prefer, you can find me at sunny.garden/@remy
