Several months ago, when Fluid Lines Media was just an idea, I planned to make it a hub for fluid people to tell stories and produce art that highlights a fluid experience. I use the term ‘fluid’ broadly. Gender fluidity is an important aspect, but it also encompasses any type of fluid identity: style, orientation, spirituality, personality, beliefs. I envision a space that is open to those who have one or many fluid aspects in their life.
People can be fluid at any time in their lives. For some, it may be a season of self-discovery. Others might spend their whole lives with a fluid identity. For me, it comes in waves, sometimes monthly, sometimes quarterly.
My motivation for building a site like that comes from my experience as a person who is ‘clearly’ a man—yet genderless at times. My beliefs switch constantly. I never know what tomorrow will bring, but I’ve grown to love the person I am regardless. It hasn’t always been easy to navigate social circles or even understand myself. What I would love is a place for people to wander into where they are welcome—where they can get support and tips on self-acceptance.
The idea is not dead. Fluid Lines Media landed on what it currently is—a personal blog—because the original concept was more than I could handle alone at my current skill level. As my skills in writing and web design grow and as people become more interested, my hope is that FLM will become more of what I originally envisioned. I’m not committing to an end goal. It’s the small steps that will get me there. It’s also possible the process will lead FLM in a different direction. Whatever that direction is, I promise to be genuine and produce content that is good-natured.
If you have interest in growing with me, let’s talk about it.
